Anuschka Blommers and Niels Schumm are a fashion photographic duo who graduated from the Rietveld Academie in 1996 and have worked together ever since. Their work is nothing but unconventional and does more than just fulfil the standards of the Glossy industry. Their images constantly invite one to reconsider the tropes bound to defined traditions, whether it is that of fashion photography or that of so-called art, as demonstrated by the Class of 1998 series (1998), for which extremely young and promising models from a London agency were photographed against a blue background: professionally coiffured but often with a glint of uncertainty in their eyes. These portraits originally published in Self Service Magazine, are part of the book Anita which collects, alphabetically, portraits of people shot by Blommers and Schumm for various magazines as wells as work from their many exhibitions.
